First, I want to personally thank the dedicated volunteers, survivors, caregivers, and professional staff for SUCH an amazing quarter! We’ve helped so many people, with all of your help! Each and every person plays a role in our success! Imerman Angels now has over 1,400 cancer survivors in its network! So many people helping other people through their cancer fights... We are the largest one-on-one cancer support network in the world!

Let’s remember our important mission:

Beginning January 1, 2013, every cancer fighter in the U.S. will have free access to a cancer survivor within 24 hours of being diagnosed.

We can do this! We ARE doing this! Today, we paired up 9 cancer fighters with a survivor who beat their very same type of cancer! We know it works. We see it work. Everyday. We help one individual at a time. Now, let’s build this concept – build it to scale so we can help every cancer fighter and caregiver!

No one should fight cancer alone. No one. Thank you for all your support, and believing in us and this very, very important mission. Let’s continue to spread the word, reach more fighters, and help more people!

• We currently have over 1,400 cancer survivors in our database and we’re growing everyday!

• In 2008 alone, over 700 people fighting cancer have been connected to an angel survivor for 1-one-1 support!

• Currently, there are nearly 200 active volunteers involved on the “VC” Volunteer Committee.

With the help of Right Point Consulting, the proprietary database is in the final stages of testing, completion and launching. With that said, our 2009 goal is to quickly move Jonny into the field to travel to other cities to spread the word about Imerman Angels. Laura Alexander and Rynell Cook will become the power users of the new database and will begin to do the fighter/survivor pair-up connections.

Jonny and Rynell were selected to attend the 2nd Annual LIVESTRONG Summit in Columbus, Ohio among 1,000 other delegates around the country. The Lance Armstrong Foundation's inaugural LIVESTRONG Summit is a three-day event to organize, inspire and direct the efforts of cancer survivors from across the country to change the face of cancer survivorship. Jonny and Rynell met many other fighters, survivors, caregivers and other cancer partner leaders in hope to broaden awareness of 1-on-1 cancer support. Jonny also had the opportunity to speak to nearly 500 of the delegates to share his story and to inspire others to get involved!

Jonny and Laura flew to LA to participate in the live broadcast of Stand Up 2 Cancer. They were invited to attend this unprecedented event in which ABC, NBC and CBS simultaneously devoted 1 hour of commercial free prime time television to raise funds for the fight against cancer. Imerman Angels was honored to be a part of this successful broadcast as one of the selected cancer advocacy groups. Not only were we acknowledged during the show, but we were invited to attend a special luncheon at the Kodak Theater where other cancer organizations from around the country had the opportunity to network. Hopefully, you caught Jonny’s appearance in the first segment standing on the pitcher’s mound with Lance Armstrong and Elizabeth Edwards at US Cellular Field!

Jonny was invited by Susan G. Komen’s President and CEO, Hala Moddelmog to visit their headquarters in Dallas, TX. He had the privilege to present Imerman Angels to all their top executives and staff. This outstanding opportunity has further developed a great partnership.

Jonny was given the opportunity to attend The Heart Connection Children’s Cancer Programs which provides the only summer camp in Iowa devoted exclusively to children who have or once had cancer. Jonny had the good privilege to speak, meet and spend time with children and young adults ages 7-18 years old.

Jonny traveled down to Austin, TX to join thousands of other cancer advocates to raise funds for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Since the first event was held in 1997, LIVESTRONG Challenge events have raised more than $40 million to fund cancer research and programs, dedicated to preventing cancer, ensuring access to screening and care and improving the quality of life for people affected by cancer. This year, Imerman Angels managed an informational booth at the EXPO and also had a chance to meet up with some of our survivors who also attended the Challenge!

Director of Events & PR

Laura Alexander is a 3 year breast cancer survivor who has served as an “angel” for over 10 cancer “fighters” since 2006. She has volunteered extensively for Imerman Angels before taking her position as Director of Events and PR.

Ms. Alexander was born and raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She received her BA in Journalism/Advertising from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Prior to joining Imerman Angels full time, she worked as a freelance casting director and before that, a talent agent for 14 years at Arlene Wilson Management and Ford Models. She is recognized nationwide having booked hundreds of talent over the years on television, film and theater. Ms. Alexander has worked extensively with the media well as several adverstising agencies, production companies, networks and film studios. Ms. Alexander is a proud single mom of an amazing 9 year old daughter who is one of Imerman Angels youngest volunteers! Imerman Angels is honored to have Laura join the organization full time as of September 2008.

Intern

Ashley Dickinson is a senior at Loyola University, majoring in Public Relations & Advertising with a minor in Marketing. Ms. Dickinson grew up in Northville, Michigan. She began her internship in June and plans to graduate in December 2008. Ms. Dickinson has become a tremendous asset to Imerman Angels assisting with events and daily operations.

Intern

Allison Koval is a senior at De Paul University finishing her BA in Human Services psychology with a minor in business administration. Ms. Koval grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began her internship in September and plans to graduate in June 2009. Ms. Koval has quickly learned the ropes and is becoming a great addition to the Imerman Angels team!

Aaron Hadley is the Imerman Angels Outreach Committee Chair. Prior to volunteering for Imerman Angels he spent eight years at the director level managing B'nai B'rith Beber Camp, a non-profit summer camp and retreat center. He can also be found at his day job working with tenants and landlords at Bradford Allen Realty. Mr. Hadley is a graduate of the University of Arizona. He stepped up to the plate in the autumn of 2007 become a key player and has proved to be a tremendous asset on the team. The Outreach committee is dedicated to spreading the word about Imerman Angels to cancer fighters, survivors, caregivers, oncology professionals and cancer partner organizations.

Kristie Bonner is the Imerman Angels Marketing Committee Chair. Ms. Bonner is currently the Clinical Director at Tiffani Kim Institute where she also practices Dermatology as a Physician Assistant. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan. Ms. Bonner decided to roll up her sleeves and take on the committee chair position in the summer of 2008. Since then, she has shown her passion, commitment and talent to accomplish the 5-year goal. The Marketing committee is dedicated to producing materials and ideas to draw more awareness to Imerman Angels on a local and national level.

Jacob Parks is the Imerman Active Committee Chair. Mr. Parks is currently a Technical Architect for Chicago Public Schools and is responsible for the design of the data network. Mr. Parks is a Texas native and also graduated from Texas A&M University Magna Cum Laude. He has been involved with Imerman Angels and Imerman Active for over a year and in 2008, he filled the Imerman Active committee chair position without questions asked. Mr. Parks has played a key leadership role with facilitating the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and the numerous partnerships within the running community. Furthermore, Mr. Parks also ran the 2008 Marathon to raise funds on behalf of Imerman Active to benefit 1-on-1 Cancer Support. The Imerman Active committee is dedicated to spreading awareness by participating in athletic events and races on a local and national level in lieu of Imerman Angels.

Imerman Angels would like to extend a special thanks to Jamie Reif, who is one of our angel survivors who organized the Bowling Event at Thunderbird Lanes in Detroit. Jamie also inspired her company, Autoliv ASP to come on board to help plan and sponsor the event. Thanks, Jamie for a fun and successful fundraiser!

The Akira fashion show event was a success with nearly 1,400 people in attendance. We had a lot of PR for the event and potential sponsors have already started to approach us for next year! We couldn’t have done it without the help of 60+ IA volunteers. Thank you to Akira and those who volunteered their time to make this event possible! The Silent Auction was a huge success by bringing in more funds than the ever before! $16k was raised by the silent auction alone. We would like to continue accepting in-kind donations that we can utilize for next year’s silent auction. The Chicago Marathon was also a huge success! We had a total of 110 runners committed to fundraising for Imerman Angels. This is the 2nd Annual Marathon fundraiser for Imerman Angels and has quickly turned into our largest fundraiser yet!

Over $100,000 was raised to benefit 1-on-1 Cancer Support!
