CHICAGO (November 2015) – Imerman Angels announces the appointment of Timothy Pearman, PhD, to their roster of highly qualified medical industry leaders on their medical advisory board, aiding in Imerman Angels’ mission to provide personalized connections that enable 1-on-1 support among cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers.

Dr. Pearman is the Director of Supportive Oncology at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University where he oversees all supportive oncology services provided to cancer patients and their families. In addition, Dr. Pearman is Associate Professor in the Departments of Medical Social Sciences and Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Pearman’s interests include: cancer survivorship, family and group therapy, the psychological issues of patients dealing with medical illness, and quality of life. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on topics including: palliative care, bioethics and quality of life in oncology.

“There are over 13 million cancer survivors in the United States. This constitutes 4% of the population. As cancer has transitioned from a typically fatal disease to an often chronic, manageable one, the psychosocial supportive care needs of survivors have expanded.” says Dr. Pearman. “Cancer support groups such as Imerman Angels can reduce depression and anxiety in fighters, and help them to become more active in treatment decision-making, managing side effects, talking to their doctors, and will ultimately maximize their quality of life during and after their cancer battle.”
