Chicago Cancer Survivor To Run in Turkey Trot To Aid Current Patients - Norwood Park - Chicago 2015-12-03 16-28-44

Imerman Angels loves to keep abreast of what our survivors and Mentor Angels are doing with their lives no matter where they are in their cancer journeys.

Recently we had the opportunity to invite one of them, Theresa Kyriaszes, to the Edison Park Turkey Trot, a 5K and fun run celebrating its 19th year in this northwest neighborhood of Chicago.   Theresa is a 10-year survivor of appendix cancer (less than 1,000 are diagnosed with this rare cancer every year in the United States).

While Imerman Angels was extremely thankful for being selected as sole benefiting charity,  we were beyond thrilled that Theresa was there to support the runners, speak a few words alongside our COO Hector Nuñez (a cancer survivor and Mentor Angel himself), and then run the race – in bib No. 1 no less.

Her husband, Tony, also participated as a volunteer Course Marshall as did her son who ran the 5K alongside his mom.

We invite you to read the story about Theresa and her cancer journey via DNAinfo. And thank you to all of our Mentor Angels and volunteers who dedicate time to touch others’ lives like Theresa and her family.
