What is your story or connection with cancer? Three years ago I was diagnosed with a rare presentation of breast cancer. As I was learning to live a productive life with cancer, I realized that I wanted to help others realize that cancer does not have to be a “death” sentence. I had my support team but not everyone is as fortunate as I was- thus I wanted to help provide that support and Imerman Angels was my answer.

What is your story or connection with cancer? I am a 6-year cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma in August of 2009. I unfortunately had to go through my cancer journey without the support of knowing anyone my age who had been diagnosed with cancer of any kind. Two years after diagnosis I found a support group for young adult cancer survivors. This group introduced me to the organization Stupid Cancer. While attending a Stupid Cancer, OMG Cancer Summit I learned about ImermanAngels. This is a program I wish I knew about when I was first diagnosed. I am very excited and honored to be able to ensure that others don’t have to go through cancer alone like I did. Seeing the connections, we can make and the support we can provide through peer mentoring brings me great joy.

What is your story or connection with cancer? I was diagnosed with kidney cancer at the age of 42. At the time, I knew no other kidney cancer fighters or survivors, and most of the information I found online was very discouraging. When I heard about Imerman Angels a few years later, I immediately recognized the value of such an organization and signed up to become a Mentor Angel that same day.

What is your story or connection with cancer? I am a caregiver to my husband. Our lives turned for the worst on January 31st 2014 when my husband was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of brain cancer. This was the first time I have experienced cancer at such close quarters. Its been a really tough journey, the initial phase when the treatment plans were being discussed with the team of doctors; me and my husband used to stay up the nights as he was scared and so was I. I used be scared to even imagine being a single parent to our 2 toddlers (3 &1 YO at that time). We have made through the tough times and now live moment to moment. We just try and stay happy. I wouldn’t have been strong enough had it not been for my mentor angel from IA; she gave me hope, love and has always been there for me.

What is your story or connection with cancer? My husband successfully beat cancer 6 years ago at the age of 40 and I found myself being a caregiver as a young wife and mother of two young girls, with no family in town. I yearned to connect with someone who could provide one on one support who simply understood the nightmare we experienced. I would have LOVED to have had a Mentor Caregiver Angel that could of provided HOPE. I became an Ambassador after referring many patients and caregivers to Imerman while working at Fight Colorectal Cancer as an Answer Line Associate. I am actively in the community setting up more than 7 socials, speaking engagements, T.V. coverage and anywhere I can make a difference in helping make more matches!
