1. Why did you join Team Imerman Angels? Do you have a personal connection to Imerman Angels?
I joined Team Imerman Angels to help raise awareness and funds for such a wonderful organization! I am a caregiver Mentor Angel. I just started running 4 years ago and this is my second marathon! I started running after my son was diagnosed with cancer, who was 15 at the time and is now a 4 year survivor. I reached out to Imerman Angels at the time as a “why not” give this a try as I was struggling with PTSD symptoms after his treatment was complete. I was paired with a wonderful caregiver mentor at the time. She had a son that was diagnosed at the same age as my son with a similar cancer with the same prognosis and similar treatment protocol but he was already a 3 year “surthriver” as she liked to call it. She also was the mom of 7 like me, both our boys were named Timmy and were our 5th of our 7 kids. We both even 99 the same birthday! She helped remind me that life is all about love and connections despite how horrible things can get sometimes. How could I not want to be a part of Team Imerman Angels for the Chicago Marathon!
2. What does it mean to you to be part of Team Imerman Angels?
Being a part of Team Imerman Angels was about the connections for me! Also, I wanted to spread awareness about the organization as it is not as well know as some of the other charities that run.
3. What was your favorite part about the entire marathon experience?
My favorite part of the marathon experience this year was the pre-race Pasta Dinner on Saturday and the mimosas at the after party on Sunday!
4. What would you say to encourage others to consider to join Team Imerman Angels?
