The Imerman Angels mission would not be possible without the dedication of our incredible Mentor Angels. January is National Mentoring Month, and we want to celebrate our mentors and encourage others to give the gift of mentorship this year.

“Being an Imerman Mentor Angel has been one of the most important and rewarding things I have done in my life, and I’m a social worker. Through my experience as a Mentor Angel I have been able to learn much about myself and others, but most importantly it has been an experience that has helped with my own journey through my grief. Being able to share my experience and be a part of another individual’s experience is invaluable.” – Alexis, Caregiver to Father with Bile Duct Cancer

“I am truly honored that I have four mentees and it is really beautiful. I didn’t have a lot of support when I was going through treatment, so it feels very humbling to give back.” – Tiveen, Breast Cancer Mentor Angel

“I’m so glad I found Imerman Angels, having been through stage 4a tonsillar cancer and getting a Mentor through Imerman Angels has been God send. Being able to talk to someone that had been through the same thing I had and who could understand the struggle was so awesome. I’m proud to say that I have joined to be a Mentor myself (hoping they never have to call on me because that would mean no one got tonsillar cancer like me, wouldn’t that be great!) However I am here should they need me and that is what this team is all about. My heart and prayers out to anyone who is suffering from cancer or knows someone going through it.” – Suki, Tonsillar Cancer Mentee turned Mentor Angel

“The most valuable thing I had during my diagnosis was what I learned from my Mentor. I went from being completely blindsided, not knowing what to expect at all, to going into my procedure with open eyes. He even visited me in the hospital after my surgery. I was blown away by his generosity, support, and kindness. I asked him how I could ever repay him and he said the best thing to do was to pay it forward by becoming a Mentor and so I did. I hope I can impact someone the way he impacted me.” – John, Bladder Cancer Mentee turned Mentor Angel

“My mentor provided me with comfort and stability during a time when my life felt totally out of control. He offered me the guidance and reassurance I sorely needed. It was life changing and pushed me to become a mentor and eventually start working for Imerman Angels. My mentor not only gave me support, he changed my life!” – Jonah, Rectal Cancer Mentee turned Mentor Angel

“I feel so honored to be an Imerman Angel. Since I am in a new community, I felt distressed that I was not integrally a part of my community helping and serving others. Upon learning about Imerman Angels I began my inquiry. I marvel at the match that has occurred. My mentee mirrors my experience with cancer totally. She was open with questions from the beginning and having experienced the same surgery and treatment, I found it gratifying walking alongside her as she went through her treatments. Now that she has completed her treatments, we have remained friends. We continue to text, e-mail and chat over the phone. We found that we share many of the same interests and share regarding these. She has truly enriched my life and I have been blessed beyond measure through the experience.” – Patricia, Uterine/Endometrial Cancer Mentor Angel
